1. Communal Coffee

If, like me, you sometimes donโt feel like working in the office or from home, Communal Coffee is just the spot. Their cafes are equipped with wifi so you can work fast and efficiently.
There are four locations to choose from โ North Park, South Park, Oceanside, or Haven, depending on where is nearest to you.
They say their aim is to make great cups of coffee, and they do โ think salted caramel and vanilla bean lattes. Communal Coffee also serves yummy freshly baked goods that you can nibble on while being productive!

One of the hippest, coolest, best coffee shops in San Diego, Dark Horse Coffee Roasters brings an international element to brew time. There are six locations scattered throughout the city, but the leaders at Dark Horse travel the world to find the finest coffee beans.

As an additional benefit, they also have a fast, free wifi connection which is great for getting work done.
3. James Coffee Co.

James Coffee Co. is definitely a contender for having the best coffee in San Diego. With locations in Bankerโs Hill, Little Italy, and North Park, James Coffee Co is perfect for a mid-morning caffeine pick-me-up.
Each location is themed with trendy wall art and cool, industrial-style interiors. James Coffee Co serves drinks in environmentally friendly reusable glass jars, which can be purchased and returned for your deposit.
I absolutely LOVE that! How often can you find a cafรฉ that reuses its containers, right?

4. S3 Coffee Bar

If you ever asked yourself the question, โWhat is the number one coffee place in the world?,โ then S3 Coffee Bar could definitely rank in the upper numbers. Why? Because it has an INCREDIBLE rainbow latte!
The signature creamy mug of goodness at S3 Coffee Bar is breathtaking, a true masterpiece. Itโs topped with sprinkles and decorated with multi-colored artwork.
The decor in the cafรฉ is also a winner. It creates a bright, uplifting atmosphere with a hint of whimsy, and since the cafรฉ has wifi, itโs a great place to work while feasting on mermaid toast.
If you donโt have time to stick around for too long โ they also have take-out and a drive-thru!
5. Lofty Coffee

Lofty Coffee has locations in several neighborhoods around San Diego, with the shop in Little Italy as the flagship (and my personal favorite!). The folks at Lofty Coffee look for farms and co-ops that grow and harvest their beans ethically and transport them sustainably.

These guys know quality coffee, and they are renowned locally for their creamy drinks topped with creative latte art. You can purchase freshly roasted bags of beans here and sip your drink inside or al fresco.
They donโt have free wifi, so youโll need your own hotspot if planning to work, or you could simply kick back, relax, and enjoy the drinks and organic menu offerings.
6. Better Buzz

If you want to try some of the best coffee in San Diego, Better Buzz has eight locations. My favorite two shops are located in Coronado and Hillcrest, purely because the dรฉcor is simply stunning.
The coffee menu caters to all tastes with everything from single-origin espressos and horchata iced lattes to hazelnut mochas. Yummmm!

I love coming here for their OG Acai breakfast bowls or feta avocado on toast too.
Itโs a great place to start the day before heading to the beach, and their spaces are so delightful, you may feel inspired to stay and write your next blog post or start that novel youโve always wanted to write!
7. Moniker Coffee

Moniker Coffee at Liberty Station is a small, yet charming cafรฉ, where you can drink coffee and have a bite to eat, and since they have wifi, you can also get some work done!
The craft coffee at Moniker is served in a community-driven space โ a place where you can be productive and socialize at the same time. The seasonal fruit bowls offer a healthy start to the day, but if you fancy a full-stacked breakfast sandwich, theyโve got you covered, too.
Try the signature Hawaiian coffee with coconut and macadamia nuts or treat yourself to a mocha made with chocolate ganache.
8. Kini Koffee

Although Kini Koffee has a location in Encinitas, I really liked visiting their tiny place in Del Mar. Itโs ideal for morning coffee with friends or for a late afternoon pick-me-up at sunset.
The women-led small coffee chain has generated a cult following of influencers and social media users, thanks to its ocean-view location. But the coffee is great, too. Try the zebra cake โ a black and white mocha coffee with strawberry cold foam and chocolate sprinkles or go for the vanilla honey latte with a hint of cinnamon.
9. Cafรฉ Moto

This solar-powered roastery and one of the best cafes in San Diego has a distinct automobile theme, and theyโve been brewing fair trade, organic coffee for over three decades.
The coffee beans for Cafรฉ Moto are sourced from all over the globe and their cafes are found in several locations throughout San Diego. As these guys take their coffee seriously, even their baristas are properly certified.
Thereโs limited seating, but the cafรฉ does have wifi if you want to catch up on emails. If youโre looking for a takeaway option, try their Mexican Espresso Mocha or Oat Chai Latte.
Oh, and another bonus โ they also sell freshly roasted bags of coffee to take home and some pretty cool moto-themed merch.
10. Bird Rock Coffee Roasters

With several locations in and around the city, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters serves some of the best coffee in San Diego. The award-winning cafรฉ has been brewing superb coffee for over 15 years and their beans are responsibly sourced. Love it!
The Liberty Station location is shared with a marketplace, and the Waterfront cafรฉ is a great stop-off point when popping into the Farmerโs Market.
But for me, the Little Italy location is the perfect place to get productive or distracted in equal measure. You can sit outside watching the planes take off or socialize with friends while sipping a sandpiper latte or single-origin espresso.
